Chelsea 2000:

Sponsored by Cartier & Harper’s & Queen Magazine, the design concept was to create the illusion of small modern urban courtyard, bounded on 2-sides by a glass wall. The garden was based on a “false perspective” layout; creating the illusion of a larger space. To convey height & scale, tall, conical shaped trees were planted.

Award: Silver-Gilt Medal

Contractor: Clifton Nurseries Ltd

Image: A Medieval Venetian Wellhead is located over narrow water rills & cascade, with a dark blue glazed brick wall behind.

The garden included a paved seating area, with carved-oak spire sculptures by Barry Mason FRBS. A row of pleached Lime trees in the background created visual depth.
